I was at a bookstore but the line I stood in to get the book I wanted was not all that lone. In fact there were a lot of people in the store, in a line, but not at the register at 9:30 p.m.! This is the book I bought--I have been eying it every time I go to Borders and finally last night I broke down and bought it.
It is set during WWII-- a time period that I enjoy reading about. It holds such fascination to me and has for such a long time. I began to really think about why that is and this is what I have come up with. Women on every level were deeply affected by that war whether they were a little girl whose daddy went of to war, a young woman whose love of her life was taken away, a mother or grandmother whose son/grandson was missing, or just a woman with no sons but whose daily life was affected by rations and war bonds, and raising money, and recycling rubber. Life *seemed* simpler, although I know it wasn't but maybe sweeter in the fact that the country was united in support for the war and our boys. I have never been alive during a war where there isn't constant controversy over whether it is a justified or not.
While I was buying my little gem, this is where my two boys were with Sarah and Jesse!
My daughter and son-in-law took the little guys to Borders to get in line and wait until midnight to get their book. 
My husband and I went down to see them and all the hullabaloo! They played cards, worked on puzzle pages the store handed out about good old Harry then got the much awaited for book. 
The bracelets that guaranteed them a book--actually only Austen in our family got one--it is a birthday gift from us. Sam has a bracelet on for Sarah and Jesse to get their book! He is eagerly waiting for Austen to get done with that book!
This is Austen on my bed--pretty much the same position he has been in all day! (please pay no attention to how messy the room is around him! :) )
Too bad I need to get off the computer and go clean--I would like to be in the same position with my book!

Kim, I'm reading my first Elizabeth Berg -- "We Are All Welcome Here". It's such a good story and I love the way she rights. The one your reading will definitely go on my list. I'm fascinated by the WWII era as well. I never thought of it the way you described, how the times meant so much to women in all walks of life. That's an interesting perspective -- a good premise for a book!
P.S. Oh, geez, how about 'writes'? I really need a proofreader tonight. And "you're", not "your." I can tell I'm tired. Not only am I making mistakes, I'm being so anal, I have to go back and explain myself! I'm going to bed!
I got the OTHER book--the one your children got. But at Wal-Mart, which was weirdly fun. And just finished it less than an hour ago--I did feed my family today.
Will be checking out your book when I find the kitchen & laundry under control...
I read that Berg book a couple of months ago and enjoyed it. I've read 3 of her books so far and really love her way of writing and painting a story. I'd love to hear what you think when you finish!
I haven't jumped on the HP bandwagon, but I think it's a wonderful thing. Anything that gets kids these days to read is awesome in my book!
