7 minutes of .....

....making music on his saxophone.......

...and 7 minutes of mom holding her breath until she starts to turn blue and her heart begins to skip beats and she thinks she might soon pass out YET she also feels such mother love and pride in her son that only a mother can know...

What a wonderful 7 minutes!

What am I talking about? Austen's solo/ensemble district competition which was held two weeks ago. He amazed me with his confidence and poise and no nonsense , no visible nerves demeanor. He played twice--once at 10:20 in the morning, in a duet with a boy from school and then again at 3:30, which was his big solo.

The rating:
1= Superior (maybe will be chosen to go to state)
2=Excellent
3=Good
2=Fair
1=Unsatisfactory (coming totally unprepared)

Austen received 2's both times he played.

Because the school the competition was held in is located in a small little town which is about 45 minutes from home, we just stayed in the town and hung out at a pizza shop where we had lunch in between his two performance times. The boys did homework there after we ate and I snapped a few shots with the old camera!

Yay for him! I know y'all are proud...I think I was always more nervous for mine than they were. Isn't it something how they can go out there and play an instrument like that without batting an eye!
