Traveling Back...

Time travel Tuesday (hosted by Annie) takes us back this week to our first date! Wow--that is really a blast back to the past for oldie but goodie me. We are going back 31 years folks!!! My first date was waaaayyyy back in 1976 when I was just finishing my 9th grade year. I was 15 years old--just finishing my last year of Junior High. My date was with football hero/star Tom Johnson. (I wonder where he is today?) He asked me to my 9th grade prom--much to my embarrassment. Boys had never paid attention to me and I ran around school with a group of about 6 girlfriends. Also to my embarrassment, I was the only one of those girls to get asked by a boy. All my girlfriends were going together in a girl group. They would be watching me with a boy....yikes!

I still remember shopping for my dress with my mom. It was a floor length, light blue, Gunne Sax dress that we purchased at a store called 5.7.9. (Oh to be those sizes again!) Tom wore a stunning burgandy colored tux--simply '70s!! He brought me a corsage with real pretty opaque ribbon with little sparkles on it--wrapped around very tiny pink roses.

We went to a fancy steak restaurant and later I heard through the grapevine that he was disappointed in me because all I ate was my baked potato and hardly touched my steak. Do you know how nervous I was???? The dance was alright--except that I felt like my friends were all staring at me and to make matters EVEN better, my parents were chaperones! Afterwards we were part of a large group who went to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. It was THE place to hang out. Most of the details are blurry now, but dragging out this picture brought some of them back to me. Enjoy!

Oh how cute! Loved your story! On my first date with my husband, all I ordered was a baked potato. Those nerves were horrific.

Mine up's, too! :o)

Oh, I loved Gunne Sax dresses! Though I never had one. That is definitely a 70s outfit. :)

I enjoyed this story. Funny that he didn't think about you being nervous -- don't guys get nervous?? How funny, too, that you felt your friends watching and had your parents there, too.

Very sweet story!

1976? Wow. That's a long time ago. I wasn't even born until 1978! ;)

HI Kim, thanks for the comment on my blog. I like your post, it was your true 1st date and that made it just that much more exciting, Though I still would love to hear your 1st date story with your husband. I found it so funny that there was that many people out there who couldn't remember there 1st date. Only reason I wrote about my husband, was he was my very 1st date ever
OH and yeah that line he used did send my heart a fluttering.. I was young LOL.. Now if someone was to try a line like that I would end up LOL right there infront of there face.. and then hope I didn't hurt there feelings :P but it was classic and I never ever would forget it, or the day, time or song playing LOL
