showin' & tellin'

I realize folks that it really is Saturday, but I did want to play along with show and tell again this week. My show and tell is my collection of old handkerchiefs. I have always loved old linens, before I even knew I loved them! I have memories of my little white haired grandma always having a hankie tucked up under the sleeve of her blouse. When she passed away, due to a very selfish Aunt, I received hardly anything of hers---some of her piano music, her hairbrush, an opal ring missing one opal and a few friendship tea-cups, most missing their matching saucer. I did however end up with a baggie of some of her hankies and thus my quest for more to add to the collection began. Here are a few of the ones I inherited: (click on the images to enlarge if you want to see more detail!)And here are some of the ones I have purchased over the years...

My very favorite ones are the ones I find that have tatted or crocheted edges like these. (My grandma tatted beautifully but was never able to teach me, due to a stroke she suffered when I was in Junior High)

The most recent purchase was made last September right after my daughter got married. We took a day to relax and regroup which consisted of a ferry ride to a little town called Bremerton. While in a little antique store I found this adorable little one with hearts on it!Just a side note here: When I got married I carried a little white, lace trimmed, handkerchief as I walked down the aisle. When my daughter got married, I handed mine down to her, and had embroidered my initials in one corner and hers in another corner. :)

I love old handkerchiefs, those are beautiful!

I love veggies btw, just really don't like fruit at all.

You should definitely go for a pedi. You are missing out. I did the manicure thing with french tip solar nails for a few years and just got sick of them. I go au-natural now and could care less. I just prefer clean trimmed fingernails. I enjoy having pretty toes though and because I love going barefoot, I really do need the treatments they give to get rid of all that dry skin. yuck right?

Your grandma's handkerchiefs are just beautiful, the crocheted lace is so pretty and delicate. I also like the one with hearts that you added to your collection.
I love how you handed down your wedding handkerchief to your daughter and now it has both your ititials on it, that is so sweet, what a wonderful treasure! I'm glad you joined in for show and tell!

These are very pretty. Such a grace they use to have. I love the last one. Giving the one you used in your wedding to your daughter with both your initials on it was so sweet. That was her "something old".

Very pretty and feminine. I love the initials on the wedding hankerchief. who knows m, maybe other bride initials will be on it in later years1

BTW--Congratulations to your daughter on her Masters Degree. I know from experience how hard she must have worked to accomplish that goal.

My mom has given me a few hankies over the years, too. (I'm Lana G's sister) Blessings on your daughter and the accomplishment on her graduate degree. My husband graduated from the Udub in 1992.
Blessings...

I collect hankies, too! I have a bunch of them from my grandma and I've added to the collection, mostly Christmas and children's hankies. There's something about old linens that is so comforting to me. I have just a couple of my mother's aprons. I treasure them.
