more book talk

Who is your favorite female lead character? And why? (And yes, of course, you can name more than one . . . I always have trouble narrowing down these things to one name, why should I force you to?)

Oh wow! How do I choose? I guess I have liked all the female leads in Maeve Binchey's books, probably for the simple reason that Binchey makes them so likable! They are not perfect but undergo changes which make them stronger, compassionate, and real.

The other character who I have always enjoyed reading about is Ave Maria Mulligan from Adriana Trigiani's Big Stone Gap series. She starts out as a very shy, socially inept, afraid of love kind of woman in the first book, but by the fourth, even though she still has her problems like the rest of us, she has matured and confronted some difficult things in her life and has become all the stronger for it. She ages gracefully!

Of course, I can't forget Elizabeth Darcy from Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

I'm not familiar with the characters listed, but I definitely agree on Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice. :)

I agree about Binchy's character. And Lizzie Bennett is a great pick.

I've read the first book of Big Stone Gap series and that reminds me I need to check out the 2nd...didn't know there were others after that, fun!
You know, I don't think I've read any books by Binchey, something else to look for at the library!

I am unfamiliar with these, but they sound interesting!

Correction, I am familiar with Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice, of course. :-)

I'm familiar with Elizabeth as well, and I know of Maeve Binchey as an author, but I haven't read any of her books yet - guess I should!

I think everyone loves Lizzy!

I certainly thought about Elizabeth and also Elenor Dashwood, but I could say that either of them had changed my life, where as the two I finally chose certainly had.

I totally agree Kim! I have read a lot of Binchy's books and usually do like the lead character. I've read 2 or 3 of the Big Gap books and agree with you on that character too.

I wasn't going to play BTT this week, but maybe I will after all :)

Have a great day!

I agree with Elizabeth, but I've not read any of Binchy's books. Maybe one day... All I could think of were childhood favs.
Happy BTT!

Ave Maria's an interesting character, all right. I've only read one book in the series, and not the first, but I can see how/why you'd pick her.
