Got Pink?

It is time for Pink Saturday again!
Pink Saturday is simple and fun to play along. Just post a picture of something pink! It is hosted each week by Beverly and you can get more details by clicking on her name above.

My picture is of something I found in a thrift store several years ago and was so very thrilled to find it. It is a framed picture of little tatted flowers. This was so thrilling to me because my little grandma Aeline, who passed away 16 years ago, was a needlework woman--knitting, crocheting, needle point and best of all tatting--practically a lost art. She would tat these little flowers and mount them on little stationary note cards, draw leaves and stems with a very fine point pen and then sell them in little gift shops. They were adorable and I was always enthralled by them.
Sadly, by the time I really wanted to learn to tat, she had suffered a pretty extensive stroke, and while she could still knit, crochet and tat, it was too difficult for her to teach me. It has taken me a very long time to forgive my aunt (her daughter) for not sending me Grandma's tatting stuff after she passed away--she has always claimed she couldn't find it, but I have a hard time believing that as Grandma's stuff was always very organized. She had a beautiful tortoiseshell shuttle (which I have never seen another like it) and lots and lots of the thin little thread you use in tatting.

Anyway---here is my little framed picture which I happened upon quite by accident in a thrift store.

Happy Pink Saturday, Kim.

I love your picture, and I understand why it has sentimental meaning. An older lady that tatted used to stay with my grandmother some. I have rolls of tatted trim she gave my mother forty years ago. It is in a cedar chest in my closet. Alas, I wish I was needle capable so I could make something with it.

Oh, Kim those are beautiful little pictures. You know I love flowers. What a nice find. Your White Rose means girlhood, youth, innocense in flower lore. Happy Pink Saturday.

The time taken to make this tiny picture up has to be seen to be believed - it's exquisite, and what a pity you don't have your Granma's work-things, but you still have happy memories and no-one can take those from you.

That picture is really cute. I always wanted to know how to tat. My Gramma used to do that too, She passed away when I was ten and she also took many of her recipes with her. My Mom was the baby of her family of ten and she was one of the only kids that loved to cook with her, so we do have some things. I'm trying to get them written down so they don't become the lost art. Hope you are having a Happy Pink Saturday! ~ Robyn PS Maybe someone here in blogland knows how to tat and will share it with us....

I love your tatted flowers. My grandmother also tatted and did all the needle arts. She and my mother spent hours teaching me all the things they thought a girl should know.I am forever grateful to them..each time I pick up needlework..it's like I'm reaching back with sweet memories. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

That is such an amazing piece of artwork and history of the times. It's a shame some of the art forms like tatting have generally gone by the wayside.
