Cat mystery

I have a couple of cat questions!

#1. Can someone explain to me why this cat has all of a sudden become social? Oliver has always been our scaredy cat. We have had these cats for 9 years, and he has always spent the majority of the day hidden behind the couch or under a bed, coming out to be with us usually late in the evening. If he did venture out during the day, he would stay in our room in our window--and if someone came to the door, he would tense, listening to the voices and if it wasn't one of our family he would flee back under the bed. For the past 3 months, I don't think he has hidden once! People have visited, and he has stayed in the family room with us. To top it off, the back of the chair he is on in these pictures has become his new favorite spot, tolerating us sitting in the chair with him.
Why? Does someone know what would bring about this drastic change in his personality?

#2. This question concerns our other cat, Dodger. Dodger has a love affair with fresh strawberries! When I bring them home, he will bite and chew on the grocery bag trying to get to the container. I have documented his actions with a container I brought home tonight. Interestingly, if I take a strawberry out for him to play with, he will walk away and quit paying attention to them. He rubs his chin and face all over the carton and tries to bite at it also!! Strange!

Guarding his treasure

Playing with the carton:

Being cute and coy:

Guarding again--this time with an evil eye and ears forward. What is up with that?

So, if anyone has any ideas please feel free to comment!

I'm not a cat person! But we've had 2 outside cats, or technically they're my daughters but she's left them here. And in my opinion you can't figure cats out! Finicky one day and the next time they aren't! They look at you like they won't give you the time of day and then they'll want you to hold them, no way to figure them out! Or these at least.
