Monday musings

1. Do you ever change the ring tone on your phone? What is your current ring tone? What cell phone service do you use now? Are you happy with said service? What sort of phone do you have? Are you happy with your phone? How often do you use your cell phone in a 24-hour period?

*I never change the ring tone myself--my boys are always messing with my phone and changing the rings and pictures! Drives me crazy sometimes.

*I have just pre-set rings--downloading songs is not all that important to me.

*We use Verizon and have always been extremely satisfied. Friends of mine have T-Mobile and the areas of service for them here are more limited than with Verizon.

*I have some fancy Verizon flat phone and I am mostly happy with it except that next time I am getting one with raised keys--I don't like the flat surface as my fingers slip off them.

*I use my phone quite a bit off and on throughout the day. All of us but the 12 year old have phones--even my married daughter and son-in-law have Verizon--so it is in network free minutes all the time. Sam will be getting a phone when we are eligible for new ones this fall--we told him once he was in middle school he would get one! We are considering getting rid of our land line and going totally cellular!

2. The year is half over (can you believe it?!) - think back, where were you at midnight, when it became 2008? If you made goals for ‘08, what were they and have you met them? What would you like to accomplish before ‘08 is over? Tell us ONE thing you absolutely MUST have done before the year is out.

* I was in my family room with my little family around, drinking champagne and watching the firework show at the Space Needle bomb! (they had a computer problems and it threw the whole show into chaos). Right before midnight we were playing wii sports.

*I am not a goal maker anymore--I think I finally quit when I realized that I never met my expectations!

*One thing I would personally like to accomplish is to complete all my book challenges on time! :)

3. It’s Saturday – are you going to lounge around the house and be sloppy? Or are you going to be social and run errands and catch up with friends? Sloppy or social?

*There is usually no time to lounge around and be sloppy. I take the boys to music lessons--although in 2 weeks I anticipate that Austen will have his drivers license and he can take them! Yahoo!! Then I can sleep in a little later or lounge around a bit with coffee, dressed in my jammies, reading or on the computer! I usually try to get my errands done on Saturday, especially grocery shopping for the week, so my Sunday can be more relaxing and around the house kind of stuff.

*I do the social thing on Saturday sometimes too though. I try to have coffee with my best friend at least 2 times a month.

4. If you could live one day in the life of your favorite TV character, who would it be and why?

*I don't really have have a current favorite t.v. character--but I think it would be a blast being Lucy from I Love Lucy--but just for a day. I am not sure I could handle the stress and embarrassement she suffered on a daily basis! :)

Oh--I would also maybe like to be Carol Brady too--havaing a housekeeper and all our family problems resolved so nicely and quickly would be great!

Monday Morning MeMe is hosted by write from karen.

1. What is your blog about? How long have you been blogging? Why did you begin blogging? Is it the same reason that you continue to blog today? How has your blog changed over the time you’ve had it? In six words, sum up your blog.
* My blog is about my family, mostly.
* I have been regularly blogging for a little over a year ago.
* I began blogging to serve as a diary of sorts. I have always wanted to keep a journal, but the
physical act of writing isn't as fun or fast as typing on the computer.
* My blogs purpose is the same, but I have learned to be a bit more fancy with formatting,
uploading pictures, and maintaining a sidebar!
* Our family's adventures, exciting and mundane, recorded for all time!

2. When you go for a haircut, do you do something drastic? Or are you more of a ‘just a trim’ sort of person? Do you color your hair? If so, how often? Tell us about your best, and worst, hairstyle. What sort of hairsyle do you think looks good on you now?
* I did not get a professional haircut for almost 15 years--my husband just would trim and cut it
for me. Consequently, I had the same style all that time---one length with bangs, which I
curled by sleeping on pink rollers each night. For about 5 years I would just pull it up in a high
pony each day.
* I got my hair cut right before Mother's Day at a spa and it WAS drastic! I love it!!
* I do not color my hair--I am proud of my gray!
* My worst hair style would be the short little perm I had when I was in highschool.
* My best is what I have now!

3. Tell us about your 4th of July celebration. Show us some pictures (if you have them). What did your family do? Did you go and see a big fireworks display? Or did you stay home and have a (semi) quiet family fireworks celebration? On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best), how patriotic would you say you are? Do you routinely talk about our country’s issues within your family unit? Do you and your significant other see eye-to-eye on political issues? International friends: tell us how you celebrate your country’s birthday/new year/significant annual event.
* I posted about our fourth here.
* I would rate my patriotism at a 9!
* Kerry and I talke about issues on a regular basis-although he knows more than I do as he
listens to several different talk radio shows. We usually see eye-to eye but not always.

4. If you only had enough time each day to read one section of the newspaper, which section would you read? Why this particular section?
* I would read the comics and the ads.
* I don't like the local newspapers reporting style--it is very liberally biased and it kind of makes
me sick.

Monday Monday

June 30th Questions:

1. What’s the last thing you grab before you run out of the door in the morning? Are you pretty good at being on time? Or do you constantly run behind? If/when you’re late, what is usually the reason(s)?
I grab my lunch out of the fridge and my purse. I am usually run a few minutes behind and I don't know why. I think I have a hard time stopping what I am doing, mid-day to go somewhere and in the morning getting ready for work I think I just have a hard time getting out of bed on time.
2. What is the last thing you bought from a vending machine? Where were you? How much did you spend? Do you use vending machines very often?
It has been so long that I can't remember. It was probably a bottle of diet Coke though!

3. What does the hand-soap in your bathroom smell of? What color are your bathroom walls? What color are your guest towels? What sort of decor, or theme, do you have in your bathroom? (Post a picture if you dare!)
My hand soap is Bath & Body Works, Warm Vanilla Sugar--no guest towels as guests don't use my bathroom. In the main bathroom there is usually a blue towel for guests to use. That bathroom is decorated with a fish theme--I will take a picture tonight when I get home. The walls are light blue. The soap in this bathroom is probably soft soap in a dispenser.

Lotion, perfume, skin
Hop on over and join in the fun on Monday mornings!

Monday Fun

I found this fun meme via Annie's blog and thought I would play along. Go to Write From Karen to get the questions each week!

1. Do you think that gift cards are suitable gifts to give? Do you find them to be impersonal? Do you like receiving gift cards? If so, from where and do you cash them in right away, or do you wait for the right item/price to come along?

I totally love gift cards! I don't find them impersonal at all--in this day in age everyone seems to have everything they want so finding the perfect gift can be impossible at times. I have increased my gift card giving quite a bit---giving them even at all started with my boys being invited to birthday parties. When boys get to be about pre-teens it is really hard to come up with gifts. Now I give them to lots of people. I really enjoy bookstore gift cards and usually hang on to them for a while until a new book I really want comes out.

2. Have you ever counted up all the pills and/or vitamin capsules that you take every day? How many are there? What do you take on a daily basis? Do you give your children vitamins? If so, what kind?

I take 1.5 atenalol tablets, 1 flecanide tablet, 1 protonix capsule, 4 calcium tablets: the grand total is 7.5.
I do not give my kids vitamins.

3. What five things would you put in a time capsule?

photographs of our family, my favorite dvd, You've Got Mail, my wedding dress, and my children's baptismal gown which all 4 children wore

4. Would you rather be overdressed or under dressed for a party? Why? Tell us about the last time you were overdressed and/or underdressed; what happened? Did anyone notice you were over/under dressed?

Life as a middle class west coaster is pretty "fashion loose". I really haven't ever gone to any formal parties, just get togethers at friends' houses which are always casual. I guess if I had to choose I would rather be overdressed because I think you might have a good chance of altering the outfit and dress it down a bit if you are embarrassed by it!
