thankfulness

What are you thankful for today? Thankful Thursday is hosted by Rhondi at Rose Colored Glasses each week.

I am thankful for:

**thrift stores (where I get most of my clothes)

** books! (3 of my favorite authors have new releases coming out this month)

** work is going well (and the week is almost over!)

** my boys and the fact that we have been able to give them the gift of making music (see previous post this week and about Austen and his saxophone victory)

** groceries and yummy healthy meals

** the smell of the applesauce bread baking right now

** I seem to be fighting off a cold (surrounded by sickies at work all day)

** Dairy Queen's Choco Cherry Love blizzard treats

dad of the year

It is Thursday and time for sharing what I am thankful for. You can join in with this event or just visit other blogs who are sharing by stopping by Rhondi's at Rose Colored Glasses.

Today I am especially thankful for my husband. I am thankful for the great daddy part of him that he is to our boys. He has been the go to homework guy for our 7th grader since Christmas break ended. Since then, Sam needed to prepare and present a point of view in a debate---various smaller written assignments and then there was the huge project which I blogged about here. I would love to nominate him for Dad of the year, somewhere! I truly do not have the energy to do this kind of stuff after working and then coming home and making dinner.

it's the little things

I am not feeling very wordy today, but I am feeling thankful for so many things.

1. Working heat at my place of work.
2. My sweet kids.
3. My hard working, selfless, loving husband.
4. Health insurance.
5. Pay Day is Friday!

How about you? What are you thankful for? Visit Rhondi at Rose Colored Glasses to see more thankfulness and to join in the sharing!

Thankful Thursday

Well, if you have read my blog at all the past couple of days you would be able to say, "boy that Kim is a real whiner!" You see my office has been without heat since last Friday. But you know what? Even though it has been cold and miserable most of the days, it could be much, much worse.
1. Instead of the outside temps being in the mid '40s they could be in the '30s or worse!

2. Instead of enjoying my coworker Leslie and getting through this together with some humor thrown in, I could have coworker who I don't get along with and who could make my workday miserable!

3. Instead of having a job, bringing in some income even though I wish it was more, I could be without a job.

So, now I need to ask God to get me through 2 more days this week. And maybe he could send those parts our heater guy needs from Memphis stat!

to health!

Thankfulness Thursday is hosted each week by Rhondi. She has a beautiful blog, which I am sure you all would enjoy visiting.

Thankfulness...I am so thankful for many things, but for today I will focus on being thankful for health. People all around me at work this week have been sick! Not just little sniffley colds, but flat out in bed--or should be in bed---sick. Chest colds so bad that inhalers are needed, antibiotics being doled out for sinus infections, bronchitis, and in one case a coworker had an ear infection so bad that her eardrum burst. Yes, I love those co-workers who don't want to squander their sick leave.

Every year for the past several, I have had at least one bout with something so bad I end up in bed for a week or two. Usually I succumb to all the germs around the month of March--must be the time when my immune system just can't hang on anymore. Last year, between dental drama, throat and ear and cold drama, I felt cruddy the whole month of March. Two weeks of it where I landed in bed, flat on my back! This year I am determined not to have a repeat...Oh yes I am.

And so off to work I go again tomorrow, armed with my hand sanitizer, clorox wipes (for my work phone and desk area), vitamin C and lots of prayer!

How about you? What are you especially thankful for today?

Because you can't pick your family....

me, dad, and mom holding my sister Kelly
1964

Today the thing I am most thankful for is centered around my extended family--my mom,dad and sister. This thing I am calling reconnecting and reconciling.

My sister divorced her husband of 13 years and ran off with a man she had met on the internet, leaving her adopted special needs son here in our state with her ex-husband, seven years ago. I have not seen, nor heard from my sister in at least 5 years and the fall out from her actions have gone deep and wide within our family. Many of these issues have not been dealt with and have basically been the proverbial elephant in the room.

There has been much pain, hurt, anger and misconceptions a plenty and now she is back in our state, living 10 minutes away from me, no less! She has been here since May and to say things have been awkward and somewhat explosive would be an understatement. But, in the last week I have begun to see a glimmer of hope that we can become a family again--one that enjoys being together not just one that is forced together for the holidays.

We all have a ways to go--we are all stubborn with a capital S. I am slowly realizing that I will probably never see eye-to-eye with my parents over several things, and yes, they have hurt my feelings deeply, but I CAN let go of this. Maybe not all at once and sometimes I may grab some of that anger/frustration back, but life really is too short for all this crud. I am also seeing quite clearly how much my parents have aged and how that is affecting them throughout all this drama.

So, I have a sister again. Our relationship may not look the way Mom wants it to look, but we have both agreed to help mom keep out of this part of the problem and let us work through it our way in our time.

Two months ago I was dreading Thanksgiving, the first holiday with Kelly back. Now? I am kind of looking forward to all being together again.

Giving Thanks

What am I thankful for?
Well, this week it is surely my nice snug little house. We have had two very wet, nasty, windy rain storms come through one right after the other. It was so nice to sit here with my book or sit watching t.v. with my boys, while listening to the rain pounding on the skylights. I am also thankful that our roof is holding on so far again this winter. We have known it needs to be replaced for about 4 years, but we keep just doing maintenence on it, hoping each year it will make it through another winter. We just don't have the money for a whole new roof right now

Visit Rhondi for more reasons people are thankful!
